Telephone-020-7622-3530

A narrow pub with some creeper growing up it. Inside the bric-a-brac is amazing and very impressive. Things hanging from the ceiling include a surfboard, flags, traffic lights, plants, copper kettles to name just a few. A original and nice eccentric place to drink. Good pub. Opens 16-00 weekdays and 13-00 weekends.

John 8.5/10 visit May 2005

Still with the same eccentric bric-a-brac, but a little more organised now. The opening hours are the same from my previous review.  Harveys Sussex Bitter was £3.60 a pint.

John 9/10 visit Jan 2013

Very, very interesting pub by the common. As you enter loads of artefacts are hanging from the ceiling. The gents toilet had a very strong smell but the 2 real ales on tap made up for it. It’s a pub full of momentos.

Stuart 8/10 visit Oct 2002

Good to see the old junk is still on the ceiling! The low lighting adds to the atmosphere. Craft beer menu on the table. A pint of Harveys Best Bitter was £4.05. Opening hours are still the same from my last visit.

Beers – Belhaven Road to Nowhere, Dark Star Hophead, Trooper Red and Black, Greene King Fireside, St Edmund Ale, IPA, Abbot, plus 1 other real ale.

Telephone-020-7720-8265

Traditional wood-panelled pub with a laid back atmosphere, in area full of yuppie bars. Interesting choice of micro beers, plus handpump clips all around the bar. Hanging baskets of flowers and benches outside, with a small beer garden at the rear. Old pictures of Clapham, beer mats displays on the walls and a nice wooden panelled bar add to the atmosphere. Dim lighting and relaxed feel reminds a little of a Amsterdam brown café. . Greene King pub with guest beers.

John 9/10 visit May 2005

Still the same. Friendly barman was giving customers a sample of the new ale, which he had just put on, nice touch. Interesting old tube map by the loos. Still a good pub.

John 9/10 visit Jan 2013

A wide selection of real ales; opposite the Prince of Wales. Loads of seating in this distinctive pub. It is a bit of a real ale mecca.

Stuart 8/10 Visit Oct 2002.

Pub is showing the rugby at the time of my visit. There are 8 real ales on, mostly from the Greene King range. Had a pint of Belhaven Road to Nowhere at £4.20.  Friendly pub cat. Opens 1500 hours Monday to Friday.

King & Co, 100 Clapham Park Road, London SW4 7BZ. Modern pub with a good atmosphere. Everything here is from a micro-brewery, including 5 real ales, 1 real cider and 12 craft keg beers. Opens 1600 hours Monday to Friday. Had a pint of Reunion Opening Gambit at £4.10. Visited November 2016.

Windmill on the Common, Clapham Common Southside, London SW4 7AA. Young’s pub with a great location on Clapham Common. Décor is upmarket. Whilst this pub is popular, there's always room in the summer to drink in the beer garden ( Clapham Common ) albeit it with plastic glasses. Four  real ales are on, two from Young’s and 2 guest ales. Had a pint of Young’s Special at £4.25. Visited November 2016

Telephone-020-7835-1855

Web site http://blackbirdearlscourt.co.uk/

Earls Courts pubs are usually Aussie or gay, this Fullers ale and pie is a little different from most in the area. The pub, which was a bank up until 1993, is not as large as it looks and can get crowded very quickly. The décor inside is green with prints on the walls and a beer patio at the back. From Earls Court tube station take the Earls Court Road entrance, and turn right to get to this pub. Good bar service and an excellent pint. London Pride was £3.30 a pint in March 2010, now it is £3.85 a pint.

John 9/10 visit Sept 2012

Still the same. London Pride was £4.20 a pint! Not sure why the beer is so expensive here, even if it was good?

John 8.5/10 visit November 2014

Still the same. A pint of London Pride is £4.60, making it still pricey! Busy on Chelsea match days. Friendly bar staff.

Still the same. O’Hanlon Port Stout was £4.30 a pint. Expensive like the nearby Blackbird.

John 8.5/10 visit November 2014

A good find in the back streets of Earls Court. Décor is mixed including lots of comfy seats, floorboards, white walls and a fireplace. Ceiling fans kept the pub cool on a hot summers day. Good range of bottled beers, including Anchor Steam from San Francisco. Old table space invaders brings back memories! Adnams American style IPA was £3.00 a pint in March 2010. Westerham Freedom Ale was £3.40 a pint in September 2012.

John 8.5/10 visit Sept 2012

This pub is now owned by Fullers. There are 3 Fullers beers on handpump and 1 guest ale. Run by a friendly Dutch man from Rotterdam. A pint of London Pride was £4.30.

John 8/10 visit November 2015

This pub has changed from my last visit, with the loos and bar in a different place; also there is now a first floor dining room.  Hopefully the back street local appeal of this pub will remain. A pint of London Pride was £4.45.

Pub which looks small on the outside, but is spacious when you go inside.  Lots of screens showing sport ( no volume on at time of visit). The pub has booth seating and an impressive white ceiling. Friendly staff offer me samples of the ales. Had a pint of Trumans Mistletoe Mild at £3.90.

Wadworth’s first pub in London is a good one.  An open planned place with a relaxing atmosphere ( not sure what it is like when Fulham are at home!). It is nicely furnished but without losing its pubby feel. Good to see 6 Wadworth beers on handpump; had a 6X ( old favourite) which was £4.05 a pint. Friendly staff who offer me a free drink when my food order didn’t get through to the kitchen.

From Parsons Green tube station turn right, and the White Horse is 50 yards on the left hand side overlooking Parsons Green. Upmarket pub with wooden floorboards and comfy leather seats which are hard to get out of after a while!. Outside there are some benches for the summer. A great section of well-kept real ales, a good choice authentic beers on draught from various countries and one of the best choice of overseas bottled beers ( especially Belgian and German ) in London. If you are a lover of good beer it will be impossible to stay for just one! Good bar service. Visit the web-site for beer festivals and events. Mussels with Hoegraaden on the food menu. Beer paradise.

John 10/10 visit Aug 2007

This is a classic pub. Great selection of both draught and European bottled beers (Chimay, Orval etc). This is a mecca for the drinker. Large interior, big stone fireplace and big bar. Beer festivals are often held here. Outside is a patio area with barbecues. Not quite the continental street café - normally raining or too cold!

Stuart 10/10 visit Nov 2000

Still with a great range of beers. There are 8 handpumps for the real ale,  I had a Harveys best bitter which was excellent, at £4.15 a pint. Staff are very professional. Visit Sunday lunchtime for the first time; less busy than my usual visits, no problem getting a seat. As seen in ‘Made in Chelsea’, but there is no film crew here today!  There is £1 off all draught beer on a Monday. Great pub.

John 9.5/10 visit August 2015

Still  a classic pub serving a great range of beers. Always busy, but with plenty of well-trained knowledgeable staff available. A pint of Harveys Best Bitter was  £4.30.  Has been one of the best pubs in London for 30 odd years now.

A great pub with one of best choices of beer in London, to keep the students of the nearby South Bank University happy! A good selection of well-kept ales and overseas bottled beers especially from Germany. Beer clips above the bar are starting to go around the walls of the pub. Wooden floor boards and comfy chairs add to the drinking experience. Good atmosphere. Change of ownership in later 2004 but choice and quantity the same, at the time of visit. .

John 9.5/10 visit May 2005

Last time I was here the pub was busy, today there are only 3 people in here, the students must be on holiday. Still a good choice of real ale and other beers. Had a Crouch Vale Essex Boys at £3.70 a pint.

Only 3 of the 7 handpumps are on. The staff are very knowledgeable about the beer they are selling. Food is mainly burgers. Opens 1700 hours Monday to Friday and 1500 hours Saturday. A pint of Kent pale Ale was £4.30.

Like the Priory Arms, this pub is popular with the students from the nearby South Bank University. Pub is next to a park, down a cul-de-sac giving it a bit of a rural feel . Caricatures of locals on the walls, ( including one of a Kiwi rugby player with a sheep! ) add a nice personal touch to the place. Friendly dog at the time of one visit.

John 8.5/10 visit May 2005

Still the same. Most people are drinking outside on a hot sunny day. Small pub with a good atmosphere. Still with the caricature drawings on the wall. A pint of Young’s Special was £3.65.

John 8.5/10 visit August 2015

Not much has changed. Only 2 real ales, but the Young’s Special was good and reasonably priced at £3.90 a pint.

Cosy friendly pub down a side street off trendy Northcote Road-which has plenty of expensive chain bar pubs. Nice quiet relaxing atmosphere with various books and board games around the place, as well as some well-kept beer. Friendly pub dog can hear crisp packets from 50 yards away!

John 9/10 visit Nov 2005

Still a good drinking place, even with the big screen showing sports! One thing I didn’t notice before was the empty champagne bottles and the reason why they were opened in tippex! There are 8 different real ales to choose from,  I had an Otter Ale at £3.80 a pint, which was excellent.

John 9/10 visit May 2015

Less crowded than my previous visits. Good collection of Private Eye front covers in the male loos. A pint of Wimbledon Copper Leaf was £4.40.

John 8.5/10 visit Nov 2005

This pub is different from the way  I remember it. No TV and more foodie. Beer was good, I had a pint of Hopping Hare, and at £3.80 it was reasonably priced. Nice cosy place.

A nice Young's pub with a lovely exterior-the interior is pleasant as well. Low ceiling, white walls, dim lighting and photos of guide dogs makes for a cosy feel. Pub has a village-like atmosphere; there was no sport screen when there was a lot of going on today. Conservatory area around the back acts as a family/ non-smoking room.

John 8.5/10 visit June 2005

One of Young’s better pubs, with a good village like atmosphere. I had a Sambrooke’s Wandle at £4.30 a pint.

John 9/10 visit July 2016

The pub has a nice warm fire on this cold winter’s day. A pint of Young’s Winter Warmer is £4.65. A pint of Young’s Winter Warmer in the One Tun (a Young’s central London pub is £4.60), so West End prices!

Young's pub by the River Thames (well it's across the road ). Well known in London for its live jazz which is held in a separate part of the pub. Admission is charged for the music. Pub has been done out since my last visit 10 years ago, in what I call 'Young's yuppie style'. There is a nice traditional part by the fireplace with pictures of old Barnes, with is now a non-smoking area. Nice Bass brewery mirror in the main bar. Good choice of malt whiskies above the bar.

John 8/10 visit Aug 2005

Very atmospheric pub on riverside. Interesting photos of river views dating to 1890, when there was a beach! French wine and beer posters. Large pub with cosy window seats to look at Barnes Bridge. Big jazz scene pub. Low-level central bar with good spirit selection. Pilsner excellent.

Sue 8.5/10 visit July 2001

A jazz-oriented pub right by the Thames. The club's out the back and artists play every night for £5 to £8 a ticket. The other 'artists' are in the front, huddled around the central bar! Bare yellow brick walls and a great selection of single malts.

Stuart 8/10 visit March 2003

Famous jazz pub with the river across the road. The jazz is in a separate room at the back, the pub also has a upstairs dining room. Only 2 Young’s beers on the 6 handpumps. Had a pint of London Beer Factory Chelsea Blonde at £3.90 a pint.

John 8/10 visit Oct 2015

Young’s pub with only 1 of their beers on the 3 handpumps. A pint of Wimbledon Copper Leaf was £4.95, making more expensive than the Sun Inn!

John 8/10 visit May 2018

Upmarket pub by Barnes Pond. A mix of styles inside, but mainly modern décor. Comfy sofas, floorboards, photos of clouds for sale and non-smoking area are some of the attractions of this pub. As well as table football in one of the rooms Whilst there is a good choice of beers, the pub is also into food in a big way.

John 8/10 visit Aug 2005

Slightly pretentious pub/wine bar/food outlet, but don’t be put off. Comfy chairs at the back by the kitchen. Wood panelling at the front. Food a bit pricey but it looked good quality. Mind you the rows of HP sauce bottles will not impress Egon Ronay. But I like HP sauce !

Stuart 8/10 March 2003

Tardis-like pub with lots of room at the back.  Rugby World Cup game- Wales V South Africa- made for a good atmosphere at the time of my visit. Good choice of beers, Had a Timothy Taylor Landlord at £4.50 a pint.

John 8.5/ 10 visit Oct 2015

Lovely riverside pub with beer patio and tables next to the River Thames. Large interior with central bar. Beautiful views and pretty plants.

Sue 8.5/10 visit July 2001

Riverside pub with lots of flower baskets outside. Inside it has a traditional feel with a nice island bar. There's a rowing boat hanging from the ceiling. The beer patio outside has two rows of terracing and a nice view of the Thames, unlike the Bulls Head which has a wall and a road in the way.

John 8.5/10 visit Aug 2005

You will not get in here on boat race day! Right by the Thames with a wood panelled central bar. Leather seats are very comfortable. A balcony overlooks the river.

Stuart 8/10 visit March 2003

Still a nice riverside pub, with not a bad pint of Young’s Special at £4.00 a pint. Nice island bar, décor very upmarket/gastro-pub, as with most Young’s pubs!

John 8.5/10 visit Oct 2015

Nice pub by the river, hate to think what it like on boat race day. A good pint of Young’s Special was £4.65.

Red Lion, 2 Casteinau, London . SW13 9RU. A Fullers pub which has changed from a traditional pub to a style bar. Light green and wood seems to be the thing here. Original pub ceiling is still impressive. Pride seems to be a good seller here might be because of Barnes rugby club being nearby. A pint of London Pride was £4.05 in October 2015. Revisited in May 2018, still the same, a  pint of London Pride was £4.40.

From the beers you might think this is a Timothy Taylor tied house, but it is not.  The pub is a road away from the River Thames and a reasonable walk to Fulham football club. Cosy student type of décor with some interesting paintings and photos on the walls. Friendly bar staff and locals.

John 9/10 visit Aug 2006

No longer serving Timothy Taylor  beers; not sure why all 4 beers are from one brewery, Downton. Had a Downton New Forest ale which was £3.90 and was nice. Not too many people in the pub at time of my visit. Nice  cosy décor with old photos, the pub’s beer festival posters and awards on the wall.

John 8.5/10 visit August 2015

Still the same. Most of the handpump beers are from the Twickenham brewery; once a upon a time it was Timothy Taylor, then Downton. A pint of Wimbledon Copper Leaf was £4.30. Not many people in on a Saturday afternoon.

Friendly small back-street local, with lots of eccentric bric-a-brac with no real theme; including a ' Morticia ' chair, etched-glass mirror behind the bar, African paintings and a signed photo of George Best. Reminds me a little of an Amsterdam or Belgium café. Jazz FM in the background, but landlord was launching toy rockets while we were there-which was great fun. Who needs a sport screen! Named after a lost cat returning-no cat when we visited- but there was a pub dog! Nice enjoyable place. The décor changes on each visit. Now surrounded by yuppie flats.

John 9.5/10 visit Nov 2005

A rare award for an excellent pub-completely eccentric and with staff and clientele completely eccentric too! Full of ethnic and classical souvenirs ( including Oriental screen, Pacific island paintings, Indian chairs ) Soppy pub dog which barks at most things! Customers include eccentric Scotsman and landlord who launches rockets as a hobby! Very hippy, laid-back atmosphere and staff who play duelling banjos on guitar! A very unusual and welcoming atmosphere. ( Hope the yuppies don't take it over! ) Excellent lager range though not all available.

Sue 10/10 visit July 2001

This has changed from an eccentric free house to Harveys second pub in London, since my last visit. Sadly all the bric-a-brac ( see previous review)  which made this pub unique has gone, what is left is a smart comfortable Harveys pub ( like the etched windows)  serving a good pint of Harveys Best Bitter at £3.95 a pint.

John 8.5/10 visit August  2015

Harveys second pub in London, which is slowly growing on me. Pub is now surrounded by yuppie flats! So it is good to see it survive! There are four Harveys ales on handpump, had a pint of Sussex Best Bitter at £4.30. The pub has a fringe theatre.

Restaurant at the rear with fireplace. Original beer bottle display behind the bar.

John 9/10 visit June 2005

A popular pub with families, judging by the number of pushchairs around the pub! A nice warm and cosy place on a cold winter’s day. A pint of Wimbledon Common Pale Ale was £4.35. This is the first time I have try a beer from this brewery, it was a nice beer.

A large back-street pub which is unremarkable apart from the fact it’s the only pub in London owned by the award-winning Salisbury brewery Hop Back. The beers are good especially the Summer Lightning. The lounge bar is done out in a ‘Laura Ashley’ style! Beer club on Wednesday at 18-00 and 21-00 hours, selling real ales at £1.70 a pint. Awards above the fireplace. Beer patio of the summer

John 8.5/10 visit June 2005

Whilst a traditional including a public bar, this back-street local has a nice modern airy feel to it. No Hop Back Entire Stout on draught; I have a pint of Summer Lightning at £3.40 on a cold winters day!

John 9/10 visit January 2016

This pub is not well connected by public transport, which might be why it’s such a good community local, along with the Hop Back beers. Food is just sandwiches, toasties and pies.  A pint of Hop Back Entire Stout was £3.50.

An award winning community-owned pub which  has no TV, music or fruit machines, but it does have some bar billiards! Lots of room behind the bar with a conservatory area and a beer garden.  The pub does pot meals for £5 to £6 which look good value. Friendly atmosphere with most people drinking real ale; I had a pint of Kissingate Smelters Stout at £3.80 a pint.

John 9/10 visit Sept 2015

Easy to see why this pub has won various ‘pub of the year’ awards. Busy, with most people drinking the well-served real ales. The price of the 7 real ales were between £3.20 and £4.00 a pint, I had a pint of Downton New Forest at £3.20.

Pub owned by the Big Smoke Brewery; like their brew pub in Surbiton it has 3 of their beers on the 10 handpumps. Decor is basic, but comfortable. The pub overlooks a green with trees, but the back beer garden has artificial grass! Background music is 1970’s soul. A pint of Kent Cobnut was £4.30.

Again in a residential area. Full of cricket and rugby memorabilia on the walls and ceiling. Lovely cheese rolls served from the bar. It was also rather busy as there was an England V France game on..

Stuart 9/10 visit April 2001

Pub halfway down a road of terraced houses. As you walk into the pub there is cricket memorabilia on the left, and rugby memorabilia on the right, including rugby balls and shirts. Above the bar are golf clubs, baseball bats, boxing gloves and handpump clips of various guest beers. Pleasant pub with a good atmosphere. Good pint of Landlord, on last visit

Largish pub with a big TV screen in one section and at the other end a smaller L shaped seating area. Old walnut mirror caught my attention. A very nice beer garden to the side with a fancy fish pond. Notice yet more pictures of film stars in the big bar!

Stuart 8/10 visit April 2001

Community local with different drinking areas, at the back of the pub is a large sports screen, collection of football shirts and photos of old Hollywood movie stars. In the lounge there's old Budvar posters, a 'Beer from the Wood' mirror and various articles about the pub. I bet everyone wishes they had a local like this.

John 9/10 visit March 2005

Still unchanged from my first visit years ago! Which might be the appeal of this pub! One room for big screen sport and a pool table, one for peace and quiet. Visited while the 2016 Derby was running; good atmosphere. A pint of Weltons English Pride was £3.50.

John 8.5/10 visit June 2016

Loads of plants outside and a Spanish landlord. Two bars; one a basic public and the other a plush lounge, red upholstery, green walls. Serving 3 beers in a residential area. A selection of games are available to borrow. Beer garden for warmer days.

Stuart 8.5/10 visit April 2001

Pub in residential area with a white wall and flowers outside. Inside are two bars; one is a public bar which was clean and tidy with a dart board and a sports screen. The other is the lounge with red upholstery, wood panelling, stained glass windows and various bric-a-brac around the pub. Games behind the bar like Blockbusters, Chess, Monopoly, etc, to play if you are bored. Nice beer garden at the back for the summer.

John 8.5/10 visit March 2005

Fullers back-street local, with a nice pleasant décor and a good beer garden. A pint of London Pride was £4.30 ( central London prices), but strangely no meal on the main menu was over £10. Go figure!

Interesting pub down a side alley off a busy shopping high street. Bare brick walls and wooden floorboards create a cosy atmosphere. Big sports screen was on, but didn't affect the rest of the pub. A large Victorian pub close to Richmond station. Despite the fact the pub is large it has a good comfortable atmosphere. Nice marbled front; inside is done out in light orange (surprise, surprise) with two fireplaces, and paintings at the rear of the pub. There is a wine bar downstairs, a dining area and a beer patio and benches out the front for the summer. A former Evening Standard pub of the year. Lost a bit of character since my last visit. Young’s Special was £3.80 a pint.

It says microbrew and gin on the outside, and the pub lives up to its name. The beer list is ahead of the snack menu on the clipboard which they have put on the table.  This is a nice pub off an alleyway, off   Richmond’s main shopping street, it has a light and airy atmosphere. There are 3 unusual real ales; I had a pint of Mordue Killswitch at £4.40 and 16 craft taps. The cheapest pint on the craft side was £5.30 and that was a lager from Germany and not the UK.

John 8.5/10 visit March 2018

A attractive wood-panelled pub close to Richmond rugby ground. The pub has a lot of rugby memorabilia like shirts and pictures-even on the ceiling!. The pub can get crowded on match days, but is cosy and intimate on other days. Different drinking areas and alcoves including a conservatory area at the back with table football. London Pride was £3.65 a pint

John 9/10 visit Feb 2013

Pub which was crowded, with dim lighting. Nice sectioned-off areas, with glass-panelled screens. Rugby shirts and badges displayed. Nice bar area in semi-circular shape (though service slow!) Nice pub with pretty plants.

Popular upmarket riverside pub which spills out to the riverside terrace in the summer, if the river levels will let you! Its plastic glasses which you want to drink outside in the summer. Inside is an island bar with several drinking areas, including a lounge upstairs with plush furniture and some nice prints. Whilst this place is a ' license to print money' it’s a well run place, with good service. Young’s London Gold was £3.80 a pint.

Nice low ceiling, place with bags of atmosphere; there's a conservatory area at the back of the pub along with a beer garden and a restaurant upstairs. Pub is down a residential back street near to the River Thames. Food include fresh mussels. Sharp’s Doombar was £3.50 a pint, the cheapest pint of the day.

John 8.5/10 visit Feb 2013

Nice residential pub; with a pleasant conservatory and beer garden. A pint of Otter Bitter was £4.00. As with my last visit to Richmond, this pub had the cheapest beer of the day. Real ale seems a big seller here.

A quiet pub which is about 5 minutes’ walk from Surbiton Station. Modern, bright and airy, with the seats getting more comfortable the further back you go. The pub is a brew pub; you can see the brewery from the beer garden, the Big Smoke Electric Eye Pale which was £4.00 a pint, was good and served at the right temperature. Along with the pub’s own beers, there were 7 guest real ales from a good range of  different breweries, plus 5 real ciders. Like the collection of handpump clips, building up on the walls and the ceiling. Nice pub, with friendly bar staff.
