Telephone-020-7407-5818

Web site- http://www.bridgehousebar.co.uk/

Adnams pub in central London. Modern pub for a traditional brewery, but not unpleasant and has a pubby atmosphere. Décor includes lots of wood, white walls, blue chairs and style magazines! Pub is half eating and half drinking, there is also room downstairs for drinking. The pub is close to Tower Bridge and has a good view of City Hall ( wonder if Boris Johnson drinks here! ). Good pint served at the time of visit, if expensive Adnams Bitter was £3.40 a pint.

John 9/10 visit August 2011

Take the train to London Bridge and walk to Tower Bridge. A very modern interior with wooden floors and comfy seats. This pub marks the first pub crawl ! done by Jackie. Expensive beer and food, but a place you must visit.

Stuart 8/10 visit July 2004

Still Adnams’ only tied house in London. There are 5 Adnams beers on handpump; the pint of Broadside I had at £4.40 was good.  Nice relaxing atmosphere at the time of visit.

John 8/10 visit April 2016

Still the same. A pint of Broadside is still £4.40.

John 8/10 visit February 2017

This is no longer a Adnams tied house.

Telephone-020-7407-2056

Web site- http://gkpubs.co.uk/pubs-in-london/the-george-inn-pub/

Walk into the courtyard of this pub and you will see one of the most impressive pub-fronts in London. A genuine galleried coaching inn ( the only one left in London ) which was rebuilt in 1676. Inside is just as nice as well, with lots of rooms and alcoves in which you can drink in a olde world atmosphere. The pub is expensive Greene King was £3.75 a pint and a little touristy, but this is a great pub none the less. Visit a bit of history!..

John 9/10 visit Dec 2012

As you enter the cobbled courtyard, look to the right and you could be back in 1700. Famous and historic galleried coaching inn, one of the last left. Inside it has low ceilings, wood, cigarette stains and good beers. Various drinking areas and an original beer engine dispenser in one bar. Opposite is a modern office block - disgraceful!

Stuart 9/10 visit July 2004

Still a classic coaching inn, in the heart of London. A pint of Hardy and Hansons  Rock on Rudolph was £4.45.

Back street local only five minutes walk from Waterloo Station, which still has a public and saloon bar, both of which have wooden panelling, floorboards and pictures of old London. Nice cosy feel to the place; there is a courtyard at the rear of the pub and some overhead ceiling fans perfect for a hot day. Gets crowded early, evenings with commuters but quiet at other times. Truman Runner was £3.60 a pint, friendly barman, good atmosphere at the time of visit.

John 9/10 visit Dec 2011

Very tradition London pub with old photos of London on the walls. Courtyard in the rear. Close to Waterloo with old railway workers' houses nearby.

Stuart 8.5/10 visit June 2001

Still the same. Good atmosphere, good beer, had a DBC Santa’s Blotter at £3.80 a pint.

This is a good locals’ pub away from Borough’s tourist attractions. The pub has an impressive frontage and inside is a cost pub with red leather seats, wood panelled walls and Brewery mirrors. Got from a ‘worth a try’ to a full entry in the guide.  A pint of Southwark Bermondsey Bitter was £4.10.

A Fullers Ale and Pie chain pub, opened only recently, used to be a old office building. The pub has been done out in a traditional style with lots of wood panelling, and what I call railway-carriage seating. The pub does not get so crowded at the weekends. The pub does accommodation and the prices are not unreasonable for central London. A good air-conditioning system in the summer. London Pride was £3.50 a pint.

John 8/10 visit Dec 2011

Turn left for the hotel and right for the pub. Modernish inside with 4 real ales on tap. Had some good food as well in the little seating compartments in the pub. Air conditioning welcome for a hot summer's day.

Stuart 8/10 visit June 2001

Still the same. Never too crowded on my visits usually on a Saturday afternoon. Met Andy Townsend here once! London Pride was £3.90 a pint.

John 8.5/10 visit December 2014

Still with the same décor. The air conditioning works on a hot summers day! A pint of London Pride is £4.10.

Telephone-020-407-0557

Web site  http://www.utobeer.co.uk/

Must be one of the smallest pubs in London, but with one of the biggest and best bottled beer list in London. The pub is owner by Utobeer who own a stall at nearby Borough Markets selling mainly Belgian beers. Here the beer menu is from all round the world. The beer menu is always changing so there is a chance the beer you drank last time, might not be there!! Outside drinking patio gives the pub some much needed space in good weather. Visited during the Cornish beer weekend, regular beer was £3.40 a pint.  Good atmosphere from Borough Market. The Brew Wharf and Market Porter makes Borough Market a good drinking area.

John  9/10 visit August 2011

Still the same good choice of beers. Like the ‘No crap on tap’ sign above the bar! Pint of Festive Sacrifice was £3.80 a pint.

John 8.5/10 December 2014

Pub was closed at the time of my visit in February 2017. It looks like it is getting a makeover!

Telephone-020-7928-4285

Web site- http://www.shepherdneame.co.uk/pubs/blackfriars/rose-crown/find-us/617

A back street gem. From the outside an impressive long narrow building ( see photos on wall on how they changed it ); inside it's cosy, intimate and friendly even on a busy Friday evening. Wood-panelled walls with prints and photos. Well done to Shepherd Neame for creating such a good boozer. Good bar staff matching the good beer served. Beer garden round the back of the pub for the summer, rare for inner London. Photos of famous footballers on one side of the wall. Spitfire was £3.35 a pint. Closed weekends.

John 9/10 visit Dec 2011

One of the most underrated pubs in central London; no great beer choice here, just the standard Shepherd Neame beers, but a good regulars’ boozer. Now open 1500 hours Saturday, but still closed Sunday.

Pub which is not easy to find, but close to Borough tube station. Harveys are a Sussex brewery who brew excellent beers and this is their only pub in London. Recently done out in a traditional style with lots of Harveys memorabilia. Lovely pub with a great atmosphere and beer. A little piece of Sussex in London. Limited opening at the weekends on a Sunday ( 1200 to 18 hours), but it's worth a trip during the week at any time. Harveys Mild ( great pint) was £3.10 a pint in December 2011 is now £3.20 a pint and Sussex Best Bitter was £3.40 a pint in December 2011 is now £3.60 a pint. One of the best pubs in London.

Standard décor of a Bermondsey Mile brewery tap; the big difference here is they served pints of cask beer at reasonable prices and not halves of  craft keg at unreasonable prices! They also have a few sofas along with the benches. Had a pint of Southwark Potters Field Porter at £4.

Anchor Bankside, 34 Park Street, London SE1 9EF. Wonderful historical riverside pub, with average beer. Very crowded since the Tate Modern has opened. A pint of Sharp’s Doombar was £4.40. Visited February 2017.

Anchor Tap, 20A Horselydown Lane, London SE1 2LN. Typical Sam Smith pub with no TV or music. Nice and cosy with a good atmosphere and separate rooms. Formerly the Courage brewery tap. A pint of Sam Smith OBB was £3.10. Visited February 2017.

Barrow Boy and Banker, 6/8 Borough High Street, London SE1 9QQ. Fullers Ale and Pie pub close to London Bridge. Name comes from the pub being a ex-bank and nearby Borough Market. A pint of London pride was £4.55. Visited February 2017.

Another pub on the heath opposite a pond, with lots of hanging baskets outside. Inside is traditional with bare floorboards, but funny modern art paintings are not so traditional! Not a great choice of draught beer, but a nice relaxing atmosphere.

John 8/10 visit March 2005

Overlooks the oldest golf club in England. Pint was average. We found seating- typical Hogshead pub.

Stuart 8/10 visit Aug 2001

Wetherspoons style pub with large no smoking ( or peopled! ) area. Good variety of beers at long bar. Dark wood panelling divided into several areas including raised area. Pretty hanging baskets, overlooking Heath area. Friendly locals' atmosphere. Comfy chairs!

Sue 8/10 visit Aug 2001

Still a nice pub with good views of the heath. Busy at the time of my visit, there is a small area at the back for dining. Good range of beers on handpump and on draught. Had a Surrey Nirvana at £4.00 a pint.

John 9/10  visit July 2015

A large pub overlooking Blackheath with a non-smoking conservatory and beer garden at the back of the pub. Décor consists of white ceiling, big mirrors and various prints on the wall. Pub with a lot of history. Six nations rugby on the TV today, and why not? This pub is the original home of Blackheath rugby club, the oldest rugby club in the world.

John 8/10 visit March 2005

The Cornish rebelliom was defeated here by Henry 7th ! Large pub with a beer garden to the rear. Plenty of teak furniture.

Stuart 8/10 visit Aug 2001

A very large pub situated on side of the Heath. Very countryish feeling to the place, considering it's close to Central London. Very upmarket feel to it, but prices of beer and food quite high! Attractive conservatory area and beer patio at the rear of the pub. Large mirrors on walls very pretty.

Sue 8/10 visit Aug 2001

Still pretty much as I remember. While the pub has a modern décor, there is plenty of history here (see previous review). Nice conservatory and beer patio at the back, which is being put to good use on this sunny day. Had a  The Horns Old Smoke which was £4.20 a pint.

John 8.5/10 visit July 2015

Only 3 real ales were on, then after I have taken my pint away, suddenly two guest ales were being put on! Roadworks on the pavement outside made access to the pub hard, which might explain why it wasn’t too busy inside. A pint of London Pride was £4.60.

Beers – no real ale. 4 beers from the pub’s brewery.

Telephone-020-8852-5619

Modern home brew bar very much like an American home brew bar, where you are able to see the brewing vessels. A fair bit of space is for diners, but there's still lots of room for drinkers. They like you to use the waiter service. Try to get the comfy seats and the sampler tray. Pub attracts a fair number of families. Décor grows on you after a few visits. No real ale, but the beers are good.

John 8.5/10 visit March 2005

This is an upmarket pub. But welcoming and a bit like an American brew pub. 5 different beers. Nice comfy seating . We had a sampler range each! The special was a fruit beer - raspberry flavour. Loads of stainless steel and an upstairs seating area as well.

Stuart 8.5/10 visit Aug 2001

A modern micro-brewery in the style of Freedom Brewery in Covent Garden, with 'school' type tables and chairs but also comfy armchairs. Very clean and neat with friendly service. Had sample tray with generous amounts of Pilsner, Pale Ale, Brown Ale, wheat and special beers. Liked the Latin music being played. Very' in' pub!

Sue 8.5/10 visit Aug 2001

The layout is different from what I remember from my last visit.  More upmarket, more dining; good to see a shining brewery to remind people it is a brew pub. Friendly bar staff. Had the pub’s pilsner at £3.95 a pint, a beer to put global breweries to shame! London’s oldest brew pub.

Now this is what I call drinking in a brewery , with benches between the brewing vessels and the smell of hops, even if there is no brewing going on! A small intimate place with a good atmosphere, which also does a good pint of Brockley Red Ale at £3.50 (the other 3 ales are also £3.50 a pint). One of the best micro-brewery taps in London. Beware the climb to the hill after a few beers! However lovely grounds with statue of a fox on a cairn, and pretty shrubs. Very large Wetherspoons indeed with lovely frontage and plants. A area here to suit every occasion and mood.

John 8.5/10 visit April 2005

The décor is pleasant and the bar billiards table is still here. The beer range is Pride plus 4 beers from micros, I had a good pint of Westerham 1965 at £3.50 a pint. This pub is not easy to get to for me, but I will try and not make it another 10 years before I visit!

A classy bar under a railway arch! The place specialises in craft gin and Belgian bottled beers, both of which they do well! When you get your beer you get water, pretzels and a special Belgian beer list, with rare hard to find beers like Westvleteren( £20) and other expensive Lambic and sours. The regular list is impressive as well and there are also 5 Belgian beers on draught. Good atmosphere and friendly staff. Best outlet for Belgian bottled beer in London and is a must if you like Belgian beer. Had an Orval at £4.75 and a draught Saison Dupont at £3.50 a half. See web site for opening hours.

Classic riverside pub, which is not near the Cutty Sark! Built in 1695, as you walk through the wonderful stained glass door you feel like nothing much has changed over the years. There are two upstairs floor areas where if you get the right seat you have a nice view out on to the Thames. Nice fireplace and half-barrel seats. If you visit the Trafalgar first from Greenwich Station, keep walking along the river and you will find this pub. Not such a tourist trap as the Trafalgar. Not so busy at the weekends.

John 9/10 visit June 2008

Dated c 1695 this riverside pub had a great nautical theme, with windows shaped like a barrel, and barrel chairs, stained glass screens and sweeping staircase just like an old ship. Great Staropramen. A little touristy though.

Sue 9/10 visit Jan 2001

You could be in an old ship on the Thames. Lovely view of the yuppy flats across the river. Wood and smoke stained walls. Large central staircase leading up to other floors. This is a great pub. 4 real ales on tap.

Meantime brewery's only pub. Modern orange décor with brown comfy seats, flagstone floor, wooden benches and chairs, candles on the tables in boxes and modern art paintings all make for a nice cosy feel. Place is less foodie than other brew pub bars in London. Meantime is mainly a lager brewery but the Porter is cask . Try the sample tray all the beers are well made. Beer patio at the back for the summer. Friendly bar staff, with a good knowledge of their product. Now with 3 cask beers. Great palace for lovers of good beer. Meantime London Pale Ale was £3.60 a pint.

First visit since SAMiller/ AB Inbev takeover. Drink-wise everything  is the same. Pub has a nice relaxing atmosphere. International bottled beers in the fridge, next to the bar. Greenwich Yakmia Red was £4.25 a pint.

Old pub built in1691 near Greenwich park and National Maritime Museum, but has the feel of a back-street local. A pub with many areas; dining area at the back, sports screen halfway down and nice red plush seating down the side, with a nice fireplace. Choice of beers is better than last visit, the beers are well-kept and the bar service was good. Cosy atmosphere. Doombar was £3.45 a pint.

Locals pub near the observatory. Good atmosphere but décor a bit uninteresting, apart from plumes motifs. Large dining area.

Impressive friendly micro pub in the non-tourist part of Greenwich, close to the Blackwall Tunnel. As well 6 real ales from micro-breweries, there are real ciders, gin, wine and bottled beers and cans including some from Belgium. There is more room here than in most micro pubs. Buses 129,177,180 and 286 from tourist Greenwich stop at Marlton Street bus stop outside this pub, also Westcombe Park station is about  7 minutes’ walk away, if you like to give this pub a try. The pub opens 1600 hours Monday and Tuesday, 1400 hours Wednesday and Thursday and 1200 hours the rest of the week. Had a pint of Pennie North and South at £3.60.

This upmarket pub makes the most of its riverside location, so much so that half the pub is a dining area. The part which is for drinking in is very nice and traditional with lots of nice wood panelling and paintings on the wall, but it can get very crowded during the tourist season. It is not so busy weekdays. If you can get a seat looking out to the river this place is prefect. Beer is expensive and the choice is okay, they are well-kept. Adnams Bitter was £3.70 a pint.

John 8.5/10 visit January 2012

A large but crowded riverside pub, quite up-market and touristy. Food orientated. Nice touches in comfy furniture and candles but atmosphere a little impersonal. Nice view of the river and benches outside. Barrel tables again! Budvar in bottles.

Sue 8/10 Jan 2001

Very busy and a bit upmarket. We had trouble finding a seat. It overlooks the Thames and has an expensive restaurant adjoining with a function room. Comfy chairs at the rear of the bar areas.

Stuart 8/10 visit Jan 2001

Great location by the river, with the added bonus of the river being at high tide today. Always busy, but I always manage to bag a seat. Staff are clearing the tables quickly. My pint of Nelsons Revenge, at £4.25 a pint, was served in a Estrella glass!

A small Late Knights pub which is in an ex-shop premises. While there is a blackboard with information about the beers, there are no logos on the beer pumps, which might confuse some people. I had a Hop off the Morning (get it!) at £3.50 a pint. Apart from the credit card machine, keg beer, music and everyone being under 30 ( apart from me!) this might be classed as a micro pub! Unisex loos. Somewhere which is a bit different. Turn right outside Queens Road Peckham station to find this place.

Whilst only a 10 minutes walk from the old brewery, the brewery has changed postcodes from SE1 to SE16. Walking from Bremondsey station under a long railway arch, you wonder if you find the brewery at all! This time the drinking is done inside, with rows of tables and benches in a modern warehouse, but it is still under a railway arch. As before, the brewery is only open Saturday between 0900 to 1500 hours and there are a few of the brewery’s hard to find  draught beers alongside the Kernel bottled beers. Good mix of beer geeks and trendies. Loos are inside so the portaloo is no more! Six draught beers are on with prices ranging from £2.00 to £3.00 for 330ml. I had a LBA stout.

Whilst the Mayflower sailed from Plymouth, there are links here to the ship. The original mooring was here and the ship's captain was buried in the church nearby. Riverside pub with a old world theme, with black beams , whitewashed walls, pictures of old sailing ships and black wooden seats. Nice jetty area to go drinking in the summer; pub has been well thought-out. Food is expensive. Think Mayflower Scurby ale is a house beer it is £3.70 a pint. Less Greene king  beers on draught and more guest beers than my last visit.

No Greene King IPA or Abbot here.  Some Greene King seasonal beers, but mainly guest beers. Goddards Scrumdiggity is £4.00 a pint.

John 9/10 visit November 2014

Tiny timber framed pub set amongst flats by the Thames. This was the original mooring place of the Mayflower. The pub has its own jetty, which patrons can walk on. Front and rear bar areas. Loads of black wood, food quotations from literature, old guns hanging from the ceiling and most importantly real ale! The interior is based on a sailing theme. Whilst we were there we spied some Americans having 'bangers and mash', this must have been ecstasy for them! (Not the night-clubbers variety!).

Nice cosy atmosphere with big plants, wicker and comfy chairs, and benches outside for the summer. Fullers pub which had a guest ale on my last visit, but none this time. Although set in a ' yuppy ' area of new flats, this pub is very well-situated, with a lovely view across the docks - very exciting on such a blustery day, with the waves racing across the docks into little side channels. A very nice touch by the staff was the bowls of seafood on the bar- prawns, crab sticks and mussels! I liked this pub very much, a relaxing and friendly atmosphere.

Wetherspoons pub in an ex cinema. Another impressive Wetherspoons refurbished job, including the art deco loos!. With a little help from some good lighting, the place can be seen in its former glory. If bored look up to the ceiling! Maybe a little too open-plan, with a raised family/ non-smoking area at the front. A nice pub none the less. Unusually for a Wetherspoons, this pub has a big sports screen.

Good relaxing atmosphere in this classic back-street local; with a good choice of beer. There is a reasonably priced snack meal. Pre all day drinking opening hours, for those of us who forgot about them! See web site for times. Had a pint of Doombar at £3.65 a pint.

Recently opened micro pub in Blackfen named after the pub in the Terry Pratchett novels; the only connection in the pub are some ‘gothic’ prints. There are some old photos of Blackfen also on the wall . All 3 real ales are priced at £3 a pint, had a Whitstable Renaissance.  The new décor is smart and the owner was friendly. For opening times look at the pub web site, which tells you now to get here by public transport, and how to get to another 3 nearby micro pubs. Well worth a look.

A nice relaxing sort of pub. Half the pub is floorboards, half is carpet, red wallpaper all around with photos and prints on the walls with a drinking theme. Flower boxes on the window ledge and a beer garden around the back. Next door is the real ale off-licence Bitter End.

John 8/10 visit Oct 2004

Still the same, nice open planned pub. Interesting there is a Samuel Adams beer on draught; must be because Shepherd Neame brew their Boston Lager in the UK. Had a Whitstable Bay Pale Ale at £3.65 a pint.

A Young's pub right by the street market. Once you have struggled your way between the stalls you will find a nice old pub with wooden panelling and floors. Good pint of ale. On a sunny day there is a nice beer garden at the back.

Stuart 7.5/10 visit Oct 2002

Young's pub on Surrey Street market. Atmosphere of the market comes into the pub, while busy bar service is good. Etched-glass windows and wood-panelled walls showing various pictures and photos, including one of Prince Charles pulling a pint in the pub. Good pub, good atmosphere. Rolls on the bar are £1. Food Menu with no meal over £3.99.

John   8.5/10 visit Dec 2005

Whilst the décor has changed, this pub has not lost its character- unlike some other Young’s pubs! Friendly barmaid who knew all her regular’s names, and what they drank. Old photos of the outside market on the wall. Good atmosphere, good pint of Young’s Special at £3.65 a pint.

Probably the best pub in Croydon. Locals' pub with plenty of atmosphere. Views from the windows include a multi-storey car park and a flyover! But good Fullers beers, etched glass windows and wood floor make it a bit special.

Stuart 8/10 visit Oct 2002

Small pub, near a flyover and multi-storey car park. Despite the location, it's a good traditional pub which serves an excellent pint of beer. Now a one bar pub, but still has a public bar and lounge area, within this.

It is nice to find a cosy pub under a flyover! Pub a little quiet at the time of my visit. Good pint of London Pride at £3.70 a pint.

My first visit to micro pub, this is the only one in Greater London at the moment. A small place (which go’s without saying) with red walls and beer memorabilia on the walls, the handpumps clips are already building up on one side of the wall. There is a cooler room with the beer barrels inside, from which the beer is brought out. A excellent pint of Portobello  Market Porter (£3.30) straight from the barrel. No music, TV, sprits, or lager just conversation, Ray the governor makes everyone feel right at home and the number one subject is beer! Might be crowded on a Saturday when Welling are at home.  A good beer experience.

A revisit to my first micro pub. Busy at the time of visit; just found a seat. Being 2 years old, the pub is getting a live-in feel. I had a pint of Titanic Plum Porter at 3.30 a pint. Friendly lady serving the beer. Opening hours on web site.
